Welcome!

Welcome!! My name is Paul Lappen. I am in my early 60s, single, and live in Connecticut USA. This blog will consist of book reviews, written by me, on a wide variety of subjects. I specialize, as much as possible, in small press and self-published books, to give them whatever tiny bit of publicity help that I can. Other than that, I am willing to review nearly any genre, except poetry, romance, elementary-school children's books and (really bloody) horror.

I have another 800 reviews at my archive blog: http://www.deadtreesreviewarchive.blogspot.com (please visit).

I post my reviews to:

booklore.co.uk
midwestbookreview.com
Amazon and B&N (of course)
Librarything.com
Goodreads.com
Books-a-million.com
Reviewcentre.com
Pinterest.com
and on Twitter

I am always looking for more places to post my reviews.

Yearnings: Rendezvous: Stories for the Young of Heart

Yearnings: Rendezvous: Stories For the Young of Heart, Randy Lee White, 2016

This book of short stories is all about a boy's growing up. The same couple of characters are in all of these stories.

A game of chess is compared to a game of Cowboys and Indians. An apple stealing expedition is stopped by a unique guard animal. One of the boys gets too close to an ape at the zoo. There are re-tellings of "The Tortoise and The Hare" and "The Three Little Pigs" (the wolf has just gotten out of prison, and is looking for revenge).

The author deals with more serious subjects, including suicide, domestic violence and some cliff diving that ends very badly.

Each story is only a couple of pages long, and each is very well done. This is an entertaining read for everyone, especially for those who want to reminisce about their time growing up.
