Welcome!

Welcome!! My name is Paul Lappen. I am in my early 60s, single, and live in Connecticut USA. This blog will consist of book reviews, written by me, on a wide variety of subjects. I specialize, as much as possible, in small press and self-published books, to give them whatever tiny bit of publicity help that I can. Other than that, I am willing to review nearly any genre, except poetry, romance, elementary-school children's books and (really bloody) horror.

I have another 800 reviews at my archive blog: http://www.deadtreesreviewarchive.blogspot.com (please visit).

I post my reviews to:

booklore.co.uk
midwestbookreview.com
Amazon and B&N (of course)
Librarything.com
Goodreads.com
Books-a-million.com
Reviewcentre.com
Pinterest.com
and on Twitter

I am always looking for more places to post my reviews.

Civil Service Vocabulary: 510 Essential Words

Civil Service Vocabulary: 510 Essential Words, JK Smith, 2022, ISBN 9798356206924

You have just applied for a job with the Federal Government. Among the requirements is the taking of the Civil Service exam. This book is here to help.

Each vocabulary word is followed by its pronunciation, and the type of word that it is (verb, noun, adjective). Next is a short definition of the word. Then comes a pair of sentences using the word. It is followed by synonyms and antonyms of the word. The there is a "Further Information" section (the word comes from Latin or Italian or Middle French). Review questions (with answers in the back of the book) help to solidify the learning.

This book is very much recommended for anyone about to take the Civil Service exam. It is also recommended for older high school or college students who need some vocabulary help.
