Welcome!

Welcome!! My name is Paul Lappen. I am in my early 60s, single, and live in Connecticut USA. This blog will consist of book reviews, written by me, on a wide variety of subjects. I specialize, as much as possible, in small press and self-published books, to give them whatever tiny bit of publicity help that I can. Other than that, I am willing to review nearly any genre, except poetry, romance, elementary-school children's books and (really bloody) horror.

I have another 800 reviews at my archive blog: http://www.deadtreesreviewarchive.blogspot.com (please visit).

I post my reviews to:

booklore.co.uk
midwestbookreview.com
Amazon and B&N (of course)
Librarything.com
Goodreads.com
Books-a-million.com
Reviewcentre.com
Pinterest.com
and on Twitter

I am always looking for more places to post my reviews.

The 2 Keys to Permanent Weight Loss

The 2 Keys to Permanent Weight Loss, Ken Flett, 2021

This book presents 2 things that will greatly increase your chances of permanent weight loss.

The first thing that needs to change is your mind (read the book to learn the other one). For instance, if you are in the habit of gorging on junk food while watching TV, dieting will not help. Your first step is to change that mindset of TV = Junk Food to TV = Nuts (or fresh fruit). Your second step is to greatly reduce, or eliminate, your TV time and start exercising (even if you only go for an after-dinner walk around the block). Be aware, that junk-food-loving part of your brain will not give up easily.

If there is such a thing as The Cause of Obesity, it is probably the large amounts of sugar consumed on a daily basis. Sugar in desserts, like soda and cookies, is normal. What is not normal is the perception of added sugar in nearly everything else in the supermarket. If the label on an item says "Low Sugar" or "No Added Sugar," it probably has extra chemicals to make up for that lack of sugar.

Have you heard of intermittent fasting? The easiest way to do it is to eat only during an 8-hour period each day (you get to pick the period). You don't eat anything, and drink only water or tea or black coffee (or something else with zero calories) the rest of the day. This does not give you permission to overdo the junk food during your eating period. You are still expected to eat healthy, maybe by following one of the popular diets. If you are elderly or pregnant, do not try intermittent fasting (your unborn baby will not appreciate any reduction in nutrition).

Perhaps you can be one of the few people in the world who lose weight, and actually keep it off. This book is very much worth reading, and worth trying (after a trip to your doctor to make sure it is a good idea for you).
