Welcome!

Welcome!! My name is Paul Lappen. I am in my early 60s, single, and live in Connecticut USA. This blog will consist of book reviews, written by me, on a wide variety of subjects. I specialize, as much as possible, in small press and self-published books, to give them whatever tiny bit of publicity help that I can. Other than that, I am willing to review nearly any genre, except poetry, romance, elementary-school children's books and (really bloody) horror.

I have another 800 reviews at my archive blog: http://www.deadtreesreviewarchive.blogspot.com (please visit).

I post my reviews to:

booklore.co.uk
midwestbookreview.com
Amazon and B&N (of course)
Librarything.com
Goodreads.com
Books-a-million.com
Reviewcentre.com
Pinterest.com
and on Twitter

I am always looking for more places to post my reviews.

SSAT/ISEE (Lower/Middle) Vocabulary

 SSAT/ISEE (Lower/Middle) Vocabulary: 1500 Words Testing Synonyms/Antonyms/Homophones /Idioms/Blanks, J. Christine, 2019, Independently Published

This book attempts to teach vocabulary to younger students preparing for the SSAT/ISEE test.

It does this in a variety of ways. There are 42 separate tests, with 34 words each. The tests should be done in 10 minutes. Do not try to do the whole book in one day; just do 1 or 2 tests per day.

Each test consists of sections on synonyms, antonyms, fill in the blanks, choose the word that doesn't belong, idioms or missing letters. The sections are short, so there is no chance of the student being overwhelmed by vocabulary.

This book does an excellent job of teaching vocabulary as painlessly as possible. It is recommended, not just for students taking the SSAT/ISEE test, but for any student who needs a vocabulary refresher course.
