Welcome!

Welcome!! My name is Paul Lappen. I am in my early 60s, single, and live in Connecticut USA. This blog will consist of book reviews, written by me, on a wide variety of subjects. I specialize, as much as possible, in small press and self-published books, to give them whatever tiny bit of publicity help that I can. Other than that, I am willing to review nearly any genre, except poetry, romance, elementary-school children's books and (really bloody) horror.

I have another 800 reviews at my archive blog: http://www.deadtreesreviewarchive.blogspot.com (please visit).

I post my reviews to:

booklore.co.uk
midwestbookreview.com
Amazon and B&N (of course)
Librarything.com
Goodreads.com
Books-a-million.com
Reviewcentre.com
Pinterest.com
and on Twitter

I am always looking for more places to post my reviews.

Civil Service Exam Study Guide 2024-2025

Civil Service Exam Study Guide 2024-2025, Talon Redwood, 2023

Have you ever considered a career in the civil service? Do you want to be a postal worker or police officer? How about being a clerical officer, making sure that your portion of the government bureaucracy is running smoothly. That's what this book is all about.

Math ability is very important. You don't need to know calculus, but you do need to know, for instance, how to turn a bunch of data into understandable statistics. Of course, general computer skills are a must. Reading comprehension skills are also very important, so that you can understand all those reports and policy papers that you will receive. On the other side, being able to write clearly, so that others can understand you, will help a lot. If you are lacking in any of these areas, now is the time to start improving your skills.

This book has many questions and answers in each of these areas. There is also a practice test in the back of the book, with answers and explanations. For anyone interested in taking the civil service exam, this book is very much worth adding to your list of study materials.
