Welcome!

Welcome!! My name is Paul Lappen. I am in my early 60s, single, and live in Connecticut USA. This blog will consist of book reviews, written by me, on a wide variety of subjects. I specialize, as much as possible, in small press and self-published books, to give them whatever tiny bit of publicity help that I can. Other than that, I am willing to review nearly any genre, except poetry, romance, elementary-school children's books and (really bloody) horror.

I have another 800 reviews at my archive blog: http://www.deadtreesreviewarchive.blogspot.com (please visit).

I post my reviews to:

booklore.co.uk
midwestbookreview.com
Amazon and B&N (of course)
Librarything.com
Goodreads.com
Books-a-million.com
Reviewcentre.com
Pinterest.com
and on Twitter

I am always looking for more places to post my reviews.

Police Officer Exam Study Guide 2024-2025

Police Officer Exam Study Guide 2024-2025, Bram Keats, 2023

This book gives an introduction to the world of police work. There is a broad view of the legal system, the book explores principles of criminal law and traffic rules, and it looks at the art of writing clear and comprehensive reports.

A present-day police officer has to do more than simply fight crime. An officer has to have excellent interpersonal skills. He or she has to be able to defuse a domestic argument before it gets out of control, and talk someone "off the ledge" who is having a mental health crisis. An important part of policing is knowing when to use force. The book covers all of these areas.

There is a practice test in the back of the book, along with many questions and answers. Here is an excellent introduction for anyone wanting to take the police exam. It is also recommended for anyone who simply wants to know more about the world of police.
